Shifting Your Marketing Strategy To The Web – Viral Marketing Style

Everyone knows how terrible the economy is right now, so I wont rant about how much it sucks to have to clean my house just to try and find a couple of spare quarters laying around.  But I am not the only one who is feeling the kick back from the economy. Many big businesses are looking to cut expenses anywhere they can. While it may be tempting for companies to cut advertising funding, they should consider shifting their approach rather than cutting their campaigns off completely. It may be weird to think about, but it is actually even more important to advertise in rough times.

In today’s society marketing campaigns are becoming more and more non-traditional in that there are more platforms in which you can drive the consumer to. This is where we turn to the World Wide Web.  In a recent article I read found here, Michael Gass explains, “traditional media and methods will no longer generate sustainable leads for your agency’s new business.” Companies can no longer solely rely on print anymore to reach out to the consumer. Focusing your campaign towards the web seems to offer cheaper alternatives.

Turning to new media like social networking is what’s on everybody’s mind, but what about viral marketing? Remember when that commercial came out for Cadbury’s with the Gorilla? Well in case you were hibernating for the last year, the video can be found below this post, or click here. This was a brilliant and inexpensive way for Cadbury’s to get into the realm of viral marketing. Viral marketing can really show off a company’s personality with a well thought out campaign. Viral marketing is a great way to use the web to reach out to hundreds even millions of people in a cost effective way. So before you consider getting rid of all your advertising, shift your approach to a digital medium, and narrow your target group down to a specific audience.

About KGB

KGB Advertising was born in the 1960's as a retail ad boutique. We've evolved over the years and even changed names a few times. We're still a full-service ad agency, which means of course we're creative — like an advertising agency is supposed to be. But, we also understand old school messaging as well as internet age communication.

The common thread through everything we do is the strategic way we approach every opportunity, followed by inventive, emotional creative. That's the closest thing we have to a mantra, and it works for us.
